From the beginning the Jutajaiset assembled people from all over Lapland. Today the festival brings thousands of people from all over the world to the city of Rovaniemi. In the beginning the event was a meeting between folk dancers and folk musicians which was spent in the spirit of the old tradition of gathering together in Provinces. Despite of the strong provincial flavour, internationalism has been part of the Jutajaiset from the first time since 1972 as the event presented exotic dancers from India.
